The tournament is over. Congratulations to:
Thanks for everyone who participated or watched the event. Thanks for registrants who warned beforehand about being a little bit later or not being able to participate. It has made simultaneous management of table match ups much easier.
I was pretty happy about the format and the mod. The mod wasn't intended to be super strong in every map provided. Yet we've saw some pretty good combat SACUs even on some less expected maps. And that's without breaking game balance. The Swiss with rolling rounds allowed for swifter match ups, which was already noticeable at 11 teams and would be even more noticeable if we had 16-20 teams like in DAT2. I'll look forward to perfect it in the future. Maybe I'll make a separate math/stats/discussion post about tourney formats later on.
What should the diamond be? The master? You’ll go out of options way before grandmaster.
After some additional thinking I've decided to replace challonge table with manual table for the stage 1 due to Challonge Swiss's functionality limitations. Challonge table will still be provided for Stage 2.
While I understand the unfamiliarity with this approach, the only thing I've done is to provide faster match ups and better experience for participants. The manual table will be posted and refreshed in Discord just as quickly as I would have done it in Challonge.
Extended Swiss system description
**6 rounds. To progress into second stage you need to have at least 4 scores out of 6. **
Initial seed is based on combined rating. Match ups during the tournament decided by current score.
Same teams match ups won't repeat more than twice. Second exact match up won't occur before round 4. Team's forfeit makes all played and not played games of this team annulated (lost).
How to download HQ SACU sim mod?
Method 1. Search and download it in the vault.
Method 2. Start replay https://replay.faforever.com/23560311 . The mod will automatically download.
Method 3. Join my lobby named "DAT3 HQ SACU download" (not guaranteed to be available during tournament).
Registration is closed.
Thanks for everyone who wanted about their absence in advance. If there are any more participants who cannot join the tournament - please tell it before tournament starts.
Challonge table and additional updates will be published a couple of hours before the beginning. Start, as you, will be at 13.00 UTC.
Tournament is postponed by one week
I need to inform you that the tournament has been moved from October 19th to October 26th. Some already registered players are unable to participate on October 19th, and approximately eight 2k+ rated players have indicated they could join next Saturday, with at least four confirmed. After surveying those currently registered, the majority are fine with the postponement. While our current registrations barely meet the minimum threshold, I don't want to miss the opportunity to potentially increase our team count by 50%, so I've decided to move the tournament to the following week.
Further date changes are unlikely.
As a small compensation for early registrants, I'm modifying the bye rules. Teams that registered before October 18th will have priority in receiving a bye (free win). For example, with an uneven number of teams, someone automatically advances to the second round. In such cases, teams that registered before October 18th will have priority, starting with the lowest-rated team in the tournament group.
The "start with SCU" mod replaced with "HQ SACU" mod made by me. The mod is publicly available in client vault just as any other mod
My original intention was to create more options for SACU usage, especially combat ones. Starting with SCU would shift opening too much while not affecting later game. In order to fix that I replaced the original mod with HQ SACU. You can produce more-than-one SACU in T3 HQ and upgrade them however you want. This should serve the purpose without bringing tricky balance issues.
Since there is too few applications so far I've decided to raise the rating cap per team to 4200. The ratings are re-evaluted as of 14th October to be more relevant. While I were a bit hesitant to do that after having sign ups, we only have one team registered so far, and newer reference date estimates them to be 4180, which is almost 4200, so I don't think they're missing out anything.
@horse12 this particular tourney does having rating floor of 3500, you don't fit

A few rules updates I did wanted to add a while ago:
@pavor while the add of rating cap helps you to fit in, reducing your effective rating from 2434 to 2400, overrated-player is still too much overrated. He's 1708 as of 1st October and even more overrated now. 2437~=2400+1708 is 4108. There is no rounding. Please find another partner.
I dunno about mode, it’s probably not gonna get added, but
Please advise
Just click donate mass on score board if you’re really can’t avoid overflow. It’s literally one click
Added registered teams & vacant players section in the main post
@swatoslav your combined rating is 4200, which is well above rating cap. I cannot register you
@boony said in Brick torpedo damage:
Please, think a moment before changing values by a factor of 3.75 compared to the original game!
Please think a moment about killing anything with a 10 dps torps of t3 unit that costs 1280 mass. The list would not exceed a few t1 engineers

continuing on Sunday or even the following weekend
Please not the following weekend, there hopefully will be DAT3 at that time
Team Cap: Max team rating of 5900 with a rating cap of 2300 per player for balance
What does "2300 per player" part mean? Players above 2300 (like 2450) counted as just 2300?
@insidiousnoob said in MapGen 3v3 SHOWDOWN:
Date: 12.10 at 15:00 UTC
Format: Double Elimination: BO3 in the winner’s bracket, BO1 in the loser’s bracket.
Let's assume there are at least 8 teams participating. It will take 4 rounds to get a clear winner. With a BO3 it means no less than 12 consecutive games and no more than 20 consecutive games. 3v3 games tend to be longer than 1v1 or 2v2, especially given 15x15 km maps.
In double elimination loser bracket is already often waits for a loser from winner section. With the BO3/BO1 assymetry it will make waiting even more prolonged, thus further slowing down the tournament.
The tournament will take at least 6 hours if one team just murders everyone and closer to a 10 hours mark if it becomes competitive. The latter being more realistic. I don't think the chosen format is optimal for this type of tournament. No one can play, cover or even watch for 10 hours straight without getting physically exhausted.
Double Allied Tournament 3 is a 2v2 tournament scheduled for 26th October. This is the third time we're making this tourney. Again new map pool, >100$ prize pool and even more special!

Description of union control:
If one of commanders dies, the player can switch via Alt+F2 to his ally and continue to help his ally. Alt+F2 won't allow do anything besides it (won't allow giving yourself Paragon or Mavor). So if one of teamates dies, both player will control all the units they have. For example, one can play land and other play air to divide responsibilities.
It essentially eliminates APM penalty for a commander's death. In order to compensate it, full share is changed to partial share. Partial share works as full share except it doesn't share military units, only buildings and engineers.
"HQ SACU" mod description:
T3 land/air HQ can produce stock SACUs (without upgrades). The factories cannot, only HQs.

In extreme case final stage can be postponed by one day (to Sunday 27th October) or one week (to the next 2nd November) depending on the availability of finalists. However initial schedule is planned to be a single day. I've changed the format to hopefully make tournament more swift and less waiting in-between rounds.

In order to pass into final stage team should have scored 4/6.
First (swiss) stage manual table. Round 6 was finished early cause the remaining two teams who didn't play round 6 already got 4/6, making them play against each other would make no difference. Also 2.5/6 won't pass into second stage anyway. So I've decided to end it a little bit earlier.
