    • RE: Why would you have left FAF?

@nine2 said in Why would you have left FAF?:
We actually get a decent stream of new players in all of the time but we lose them quickly - 90% of new FAF players will be gone after 2 years.

Do you think this is not normal?
There is no regular addition of content to FAF. Therefore, the loss of the audience is quite a logical phenomenon in such situations.

I am wrong? So look at other popular projects. Let's take Dota for example. Take a look at the Dota 2 online chart on Steam Charts on the first day of the Battle Pass release. Online is growing exponentially.
Answer the question, how much will online games like CS:GO and Dota drop if all battle passes and in-game cosmetics are removed?
Many play only for rewards such as in-game cosmetics.

I think it's foolish to be surprised at the loss of an audience until you find a way to regularly add content to FAF.

    • RE: FAF Statistics Megathread

I became interested in what countries players play FAF from, but I did not find such graphs or diagrams. Please make a chart where the percentage indicates from which countries how many players play.

    • Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?

It is very interesting to me 🙂
There is a thread on an old forum about this:
      https://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18684

But the screenshot images are not displayed 😞
      So what was the answer?

    • DualGap Adaptive needs to be given to the FAF community!

It's no secret that Dual Gap Adaptive v14 is one of the most popular maps, and maybe the most popular. I think we need to fork the Dual Gap Adaptive v14 map and hand over the development of this map to the FAF community. At the moment, the author of the map has disappeared and is not in contact. And as the author of the map himself admitted, he lost interest in the project.

I am not suggesting that the map be taken away from the author. I propose to make a new development branch of Dual Gap Adoptive FAF edition based on Dual Gap Adaptive v14. The map author will still be able to make new versions of his map.

But we will have an alternative way of developing this map, which will be developed by talented developers such as @Jip , who will make the map even better!

Put + if you support this proposal, or - if you are against it.

@CaptainKlutz Hi, please make a version of the Dual Gap map. Why another DualGap? Newbies < 1000 can't play anything else and therefore don't go to unfamiliar ones. (Astrocrater, this is not a map XD) I wish there was a map similar to DualGap but with some new ideas...

@jip said in DualGap Adaptive needs to be given to the FAF community!:

I have no interest in further developing a specific map. If the author wants to allow the community to make derivations he/she can simply give it a Creative Commons license that allows that.

The map developer has disappeared. 😞

Ok, I think there are still developers in FAF who are ready to take on the support of the map on which 80% of the games in FAF are played.

    • ICE Adapter load my CPU on 100%

This usually happens when someone has problems with the network.
The impression is that somewhere in the code an endless loop starts when there is no connection with someone.

@redx said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:

Maybe I am not fully aware of the economic forces behind this franchise, but I cannot imagine there being enough of a market to justify remastering this game.

In some ways you are right, the game is really dead and no one plays it. If you look at the graphs, online SC:FA is equal to online SopCom 2. So why will the publisher remaster SC1 or SC:FA? Why doesn't the publisher make a remaster of SupCom 2? The publisher doesn’t care what you personally like, he needs financial indicators.
Why do you need to make a remaster or sequel for SC1:FA? Why not SC2? Maybe more people are playing SC:FA? No, no more, according to Steam charts: https://steamcharts.com/cmp/9420,40100#All

Interesting fact, a lot of people talked about how terrible Supremme Commander 2 turned out, but if you look at the graphs, the popularity of SC:FA was not much more than SC2. If you look at the graph, this was the case until approximately June 2022. I'm wondering what's causing this online growth in SC:FA in 2022?

    • RE: Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?

@deribus thanks for the info 👍
here it is stated that CRYSTAL DYNAMICS does not own IP SupCom. But this does not exclude the possibility that the rights were acquired.

      https://embracer.com/releases/embracer-group-enters-into-an-agreement-to-acquire-eidos-crystal-dynamics-and-square-enix-montreal-amongst-other-assets/

      From the official Embracer website:

"Embracer Group AB (”Embracer”) has entered into an agreement to acquire the development studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal, and a catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD."

A maximum of 10 franchises have been confirmed, but the official website claims another 50 games from the Square Enix catalog.

In this Reddit thread, in one of the comments, the user refers to an insider from Square Enix.

What game are you working on

Secret information ). (our team was a contractor for manual testing of one of the wargaming games. I was an project manager on the project.)

@nine2 said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:

We could try and go to them and just ask nicely, saying it would be good publicity and citing examples of other publishers giving up the code and how good that turned out.

I'm not interested in the source code. It would be better if they make a remaster that fixes the main problems.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/supremecommander/comments/ugyetz/embracer_group_to_acquire_eidos_crystal_dynamics/

There is a chance that everything is now in the hands of Embracer

@nine2 said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:

I know people have sent emails in the past but you could do it a bit nicer with fancy slides and charts etc. A nice business pitch.

Great idea. Don't want to do this? It’s better to ask for a remaster and indicate in the presentation how they will return all the money invested). This is a more realistic option.

@redx said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:

      Guys... It's not gonna happen.

Are you talking about transferring the source code? Yes, I completely agree with you. This will never happen.
But I think the chances of a remaster being released are much higher)
If the source code and IP are now the property of Embracer, this simplifies the process.
