Still great advice! I would only add one point which is, find like minded people to play with. If you are looking to improve on Ladder (TMM now) or Custom x vs x games and find that you are unable to perform good enough to win on your own, make some friends and queue together because at the end of the day, even if you do everything perfectly, you are playing a team game. As Picard once said: "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose." Sometimes your opponent is just better. Use those times to learn from them.

@reckless_charger 1v1 and teamgames are different bc Lab usage Amount of expansions Spots (Dedicated air spots etc) Multiple ACUs running around Unit shift from T1 (ladder) to later stages (teamgames) Cybran has the main problem that they lack shields. What isn't a huge problem in 1v1s becomes impactful in teamgames as usage of AoE (Arty, Strats, ...) is way more common there and the ppl have the apm to abuse stuff which they would not have in 1v1s together with one scoutstream countering stealth.

@Melanol I'm not 100% sure, but there was a version (the older one) which technically wasn't allowed. This one apparently is. I can't tell you the difference though as I don't need to use them. @AdAstraNoob It being legal is the current state I know after following some discussions on the Discord. I'll ask some mods again to be entirely sure and if there's a problem I'll delete it from the list.

expand the team games section how resource overflow mechanics work how/when giving structures/units makes sense some real team-play approaches, instead of just happening to be the same "Team" but everybody mind their own business there is certainly a lot obvious but also more than that....

That's not it. I know the commands that start from /1 to /98. I meant where the characters from the factions just laugh but don't say anything.

@oncehandsome Discord is a chatprogram, yes. You can use it to chat and (video) call with other people individually, or you can join servers hosted by specific communities. I use it to videocall with IRL friends, as well as with people from my FAF clan when we play together. FAF itself has a dedicated server where a lot of people that play FAF hang out, and it also serves as a general information hub. Don't worry about minimizing apps running in the background. Unless your PC is more than 15 years old or really, really, shitty, you will not notice the difference. For reference, my PC is coming up on its 10 year anniversary, and while I am certainly starting to notice it being not up to par for some of the mapping work that I do, discord has never been an issue. Alternatively, you can close the program when you're done chatting or looking through the mapping documentation, of course. No system drain if you don't keep the software running.

@jip said in About decals: converting normal maps: Store the file in the .dds format. In Photoshop make sure to save it as BC3 with interpolated alpha or in Gimp as DXT5. They are the same format but with a different name. Scratch that - gpg editor was quirking out and not updating… All good here.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Help - my map looks glossy - as if it is wet! [image: 1609365437597-help-glossy.png] An example of terrain that appears glossy or wet [image: 1609404288193-help-glossy-normal.png] An example of a noisy normal map [image: 1609404297213-help-glossy-albedo.png] An example of a speccy albedo map This is a combination of factors: A bright albedo color from either strata layers or other decals. A noisy normal map. A speccy albedo map. The noisy normal causes some pixels to be lit or darkened accordingly. If this happens quite rapidly (in other words: it starts resembling noise) then some pixels will be lit completely while you wouldn't expect it. Due to how Supreme Commander works with bright colors in combination with bloom it starts looking glossy and / or wet. A solution can be to slightly blur the terrain before generating a normal map from it - this ensures that all pixel-level noise is removed prior to making the normal map!
