I would like to find a way to rid our FAF community of racism, bigotry, hate speech and the like. I think it is time we mature as a community and not tolerate such behavior anymore. I am not talking about typical shit talk, calling each other stupid noobs blah blah blah. I am talking about the serious hate talk that no adult in 2021 should be tolerating.

Why are lobby names allowed to be such things as "No n****** or f***"

Why can't there be chat filter for such terms, why can't there be an instant bans for such actions? Why do we tolerate it and just deal with it.

I'm all for shit talk but hate talk needs to go. I have brought this up in chat and I get shit on for even mentioning it which is surprising.

Am I the only one who wants to clean this place up? Am I the only one who won't tolerate this? If so why?

What's the point in growing the community, becoming an official non-profit if we are going to condone this type of behavior?

There has to be something we can do. I have been a Patreon supporter for a short time but don't feel I can contribute anymore until such efforts are made to rid our community of these things. Or...if my contributions can go directly to the effort to ban all hate speech.

What am I missing here?

@furyritchie I appreciate you can have your own thoughts on this but for you to shit on me for wanting to take such a strong stance is confusing to me. If you are ok with hate speech than that is a reflection of who you are. I want to take a strong stance against it and that is a reflection of who I am. People purchase the game yes but it should be a privilege to be part of the online community not a right. The reasonings you are attempting to make are part of the problem. I'm not being political. This is not a political issue to me it is a human rights issue. Like I said I am not talking about people trash talking. I am talking about racism, anti gay, bigotry. I fall into none of those groups but will defend them vehemently. Perhaps you are the one who should not be part of a moderation team if you take such issues so lightly and are annoyed that there are those who wish to rid a community of them. Savagely punishing those who act with savage hate should be a no brainer. The current system exist yes but I don't think it is enough for this specific issue. When people have a problem with any attempt to rid the community of hate speech it makes me think they are the types that act like that. Why else would you want to defend such actions. Do you actually want a community where anyone can say and do anything with no real consequence?....not really a community then is it....

I will continue to report all infractions of this nature that I see. I will trust that the actual leaders of this community have seen this post and will consider it objectively. I hope that there are more people like me around here that want a minimum standard of conduct and hope that we can find a way to rid our community of hate speech in all it's forms but I will never have empathy for people who act this way and am shocked you would make such a suggestion.

@gamb1t with all due respect I think you may have misinterpreted the intent behind the code of conduct. I think that in order to grow this community there has to be an established code of conduct and personally feel that the wording and intent behind it are positive and neutral in ensuring everyone can enjoy this community and have a level of protection from certain types of negative behavior.

I'm an industrial construction worker and there aren't many filters day to day on the job site so I'm not overly sensitive but I feel strongly that there needs to be minimum standard for the FAF community because I really care about it and want it to grow and thrive long term and not shrink to a niche community. I feel the FAF admin have done a great job with this and in no way are abusing it. A code of conduct is something every respectable organisation on the planet has in place and most are far more restrictive and hard line than ours here.

I think until the league system is implemented it's best to keep it as is. I am a level 1000 ranked player with 850 games and will get kicked too after waiting in lobbies for a while. The sub-1000, non-grey crowd kicks me because they fear my games played and think I'm going to be better than my rank suggests and the semi-pro to pro crowd will kick me because I'm a noob who can't get my rank up after so many games and don't want their team dragged down lol. To me, it's part of it and I don't let it bother me anymore. I take it as a challenge to rank up the right way and play well when I do get in the 1200+ games. My advice is play with people in your own "league" so to speak until your rank and games count is more palatable for the higher level lobbies. Keep playing and you'll have 100+ games soon enough and will be enjoying it more the way you want. Welcome back btw.

I really don't think it's unreasonable to require a certain amount of time from a moderator each week. Any organization that requires volunteers requires them to give a certain amount of time and to commit to that. My sister has a non-profit that is quite successful simply because her volunteers can commit to a certain amount of time and she can rely on that. If she had a hundred volunteers but none of them could spend time on their duties then they aren't really volunteers because they're not doing anything. Any non-profit has a volunteer backbone and it is a requirement for them to spend a certain amount of time on their duties. If they are so busy that they can't devote a certain amount of time to something they are volunteering to do then they shouldn't be volunteering to do it. Volunteering to doing something and then turning around and saying "well I have a life so I can't spend any time on this" is just playing garbage.

I don't think every moderator needs to be a senior level moderator either do they? Could you not have junior moderators who work under a senior moderator? After their onboarding they would handle reports and submit them to the senior and the senior would have less work to do to review them before approval. Or if any red flags came up with the junior moderators reporting then the senior moderator was there to step in.
