Changing game speed in game?

Been trying to figure this out for a while; no matter what keys I set the keyboard bindings for increase / decrease game speed I can't seem to get the game to change it in game...
Anybody else have any luck?

When you are in the lobby, there is an option relating to game speed.
You can set it to normal (fixed at +0), fast (fixed at +4), or variable (you can use the keys to increase or decrease speed)
