Question about targeting

You scout enemy COM, select bombers and attack, the scout dies, you lose the Icon in minimap.
What happens to the bombers?
They lock and still get the COM or if the COMS moves while they go do they just shoot the ground or look for new targets? -
If you target the ground, they shoot the ground. If you target the unit, they follow the unit into the FOW.
